Learning to Learn

Updated: Jun 11, 2019

One of the greatest challenges parents face, is 'How best can we bring up our children to survive, succeed, and be happy?' The most widely held idea is to give children a formal mass education preferably using the medium of the English language.

There are 3 types of people. Some people watch things happen, some make things happen and those who wonder what happened. The vast majority of the output of our mass education system produces people who realise just a tiny portion of their potential, constantly confused by wondering what is happening and has happened.

To make things happen, means to bring about change. Technology, literacy, and infrastructure continues to compress our feelings of time and space to a mere fraction of what it used to be.

Take the example of when Victoria of Britain was crowned queen in 1837 C.E., the British colonies in America received the news 6 months later. Now when an incident occurs in most parts of the world, we learn of it instantaneously. Action and reactions also take place in less than the blink of an eye.

Then there is knowledge. 99% of scientists who ever lived are living today. They produce an astonishing 2.5 million scientific papers each year. Knowledge produces more knowledge in an explosive and exponential manner.

The top 10 professions today never existed a decade ago. We are teaching our children stuff that will be obsolete by the time they will finish schooling and college. If they cling only to what they have learned during this time, it will be difficult for them to cope leave alone succeed.

Based on just cramming information and testing for our ability to regurgitate it, our education system and our educationists are hopelessly outdated and obsolete. Irrelevant education produces people like the 'Jatinga' meet a troubled end.

The secret of success will depend on the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn constantly.

Therefore the greatest learning everyone has to acquire is 'Learning to Learn'. This trait can rarely be cultivated in the system of mass education. Only a true teacher and usually parents can instil this vital quality.

Success is made up of many ingredients, awareness and approach are two traits that can be developed.

To facilitate development of these and other traits, Guru Wonder conducts a one and two day program on 'Achieving Success'
